Looking for late season dragonflies, including around Hemiphlebia mirabilis habitat. Highlights include seeing Wanderer Butterflies an some unusully late Hemiphlebia. Also seen were tigertail dragonflies whose identity is still being debated, possibly Synthemis tasmanica on the mainland.

March 13, 2010 : Long Swamp

Wandered the mostly dry Long Swamp. The far eastern part still had some water, possibly saline. Nothing of particular interest was sighted, just one last Spiranthes australis was hanging on.

March 13, 2010 : Inkpot

Evening at this deep pool in forest.

March 14, 2010 : Piccaninnie Ponds (Morning)

This site that still had numerous Hemiphlebia mirabilis and relatively deep water in January so I wanted to see what the habitat was like at the end of summer. Despite the site being drying now I was surprised to still see a couple of these damsels.

March 14, 2010 : Piccaninnie Ponds (Afternoon)

Spent the afternoon around the outlet of the Ponds and observed a few, mostly common dragonflies.

March 15, 2010 : Drain

Drain at Range Rd that flows into Mullins Swamp. I was here in January and saw many dragonflies and I wasn't dissappointed on this visit.

March 16, 2010 : Drain Again

The same drain again as the day before but this morning was still and foggy. This enabled me to get close to the sleeping dragonflies but the light wasn't so good. Note image 20519 shows a female Black-headed Skimmer with blue abdomen coloration like males.

March 16, 2010 : Large Dam

Only Hemicordulia australiea seen

March 16, 2010 : North Grassy Flats

Edge of large swamp with abundant water. A few common odonata were sighted.
